Getting Here

Found out about travel options to get to our properties in the Upper Tarentaise

Travel Information

Airports

Geneva, Lyon , Chambery , Grenoble are all within 2 – 3 hours from Tignes ( 2o minutes less for Ste Foy . Turin is also an option for summer only . Car hire and transfers are almost always cheaper from Lyon , Chambery and Grenoble than Geneva.

Public buses

Altibus run from all the airports, but will only take you to a central place in resort , so you will need to arrange a taxi or resort bus for the last leg of your journey. Prices start from around €60pp , so its definitely worth considering an airport transfer.

Train

You can reduce your carbon footprint by taking Eurostar to Paris or Lille and then a normal train to Bourg St Maurice. You can take a taxi, a transfer, or sometimes a public bus, contact us for more information. If you take the train, we will deliver your supermarket shopping for free.

Car Hire

For the best deals use a comparison site, and make sure that you have snow tyres and chains included. Don’t forget that you won’t really need a car at all in Tignes, as all amenities are within walking distance.

In the winter you can just about do without a car in Sainte Foy or Seez if you are organised and make use of the supermarket delivery and the navettes. We also have a taxi in the village for off nights and days out.

Self Drive

The Tarentaise is around 8-9 hours from Calais with no stops and 6 hours from Paris. You will need to factor in stops and of course, Tignes is 45 minutes further than Seez. Take care to plan your route and ensure that you do not plan to access the Tarentaise via any of the Cols during the winter, as they will be closed from mid-October to mid-June.

Snow tyres are now obligatory in many departments across France. In many cases you will also need snow chains if snow is forecast especially when there is a lot of stop-start in the final leg of the journeys. Snow chains are essential for Tignes if you plan to park outside the chalet.

Transfers & Resort Taxi

The quickest and easiest is direct transfer. Coolbus are our preferred supplier, however, there are many other local services such as Snowdrone.

There are also many unlicenced unreliable services that advertise through comparison sites. There are many cases of transfers simply not turning up, cancelling at the last minute or being stopped at the border and refused entry. We are always happy to help you to verify your transfer company.

Bensbus do coach transfers and will stop in Sainte Foy near the chalet and Tignes. It’s not practical for Tignes Chalet.

Bad weather and heavy traffic

Saturdays in the Alps are extremely busy, that’s why we do Sunday to Sunday holidays in Tignes and Sainte Foy, as there is much less chance of being caught in traffic. Ensure you have plenty of water and warm clothing in the event that heavy snow is forecast.
